In Scottish folklore, the Ceasg is a mythological creature with the body and head of a women, and the tail of a grilse, or young salmon. Ceasg are adaptive beings and can live in the sea, rivers and streams.
It is suggested that Ceasg can grant wishes to those who capture them. They are also known to marry humans and when they return to the sea, protect their land living descendants from storms.
A darker version of the story portrays the Ceasg as a sea goddess to whom humans are sacrificed, as proposed by Scottish folklorist Donald MacKenzie.
This tail takes subtle colour inspiration from the striking sockeye salmon, with warm purple hues, contrasted with pale silvery tones. Hints of turquoise enhance to the texture on the back. The tail is highly contrasting and the blood purple-red hues add a slightly gothic feel, and a nod to the Ceasg as a deadly sea goddess.
